6x3=18
24-18= 6
so 3x=6 therefore x=2

when you plug in 3 in for y the equation is 3x + 6(3) = 24
3x + 18 = 24
subtract 18 from both sides
3x = 6
Isolate the x by dividing both side by 3
x = 2
