A metal rod 9.4 meters long is cut into two pieces. One piece is 3 times as long as the other. Find the length of the longer piece in meters. Round your answer to the nearest tenth of a meter.

Clue for your help
x-first piece
3x-2nd piece

it says that if u add them it will be 9.4 so
3x+x=9.4
4x=9.4
x=2.35

so the first piece is 2.45
while the 2nd piece is 3(2.35)
=7.05

The smaller one is a quarter of the original (
(1)/(1+3)). That is, 2.35. The longer one is 3 times that: 7.05. Rounding gives us 7.1 meters.
