Each letter of the alphabet is written on a different piece of paper. These pieces of paper are folded and kept in a bag. One folded paper is drawn at random from this bag.

PALINDROME

only 1 P ; 4 vowels ; 10 letters in all

probability of p = 1/10
probability of vowels = 4/10

probability of P or vowels = 1/10 + 4/10 = 510 or 1/2

these probabilities are mutually exclusive events... this is because these events can't happen at the same time.
