Since 1.38 is more than one, we can take the 1 off to the side and find the fraction for 0.38.

1+0.38
Put 38 over 100 to start, since 0.38 is really "38 hundredths".

1+(38)/(100)
You have to reduce 38/100 because it can be simplified.

(38)/(100) = (19)/(50)\\ 1+(19)/(50)
Now, this is a mixed number. This is a correct answer, since 19/50 cannot be simplified further. However, if you want an improper fraction, you must go one step further and put the 1 back in.

1= (50)/(50) \\ (50)/(50)+(19)/(50)
Add the numerators:

(50)/(50) +(19)/(50)=(69)/(50)
