Earth’s tallest mountain ranges are formed at the convergent boundaries of tectonic plates. When one plate is oceanic and one continental, the oceanic plate gets subducted, for example the Andes mountain range. When two continental plates converge, the two crumple together, for example the Alps mountain range.
