Spencer wants to buy a softball glove and he needs a total of 46.50

He already has 15, and he plans to save 5.25 for an unknown number of weeks, which we shall call w, hence;

\begin{gathered} 46.50=15+5.25* w \\ 5.25\text{ saved for w number of weeks is expressed as 5.25 times w} \\ 46.50=15+5.25w \\ \text{Collect all like terms} \\ 46.50-15=5.25w \\ 31.5=5.25w \\ \text{Divide both sides by 5.25} \\ (31.5)/(5.25)=(5.25w)/(5.25) \\ 6=w \end{gathered}

The calculations show that Spencer will have to save for 6 weeks to save up for the new softball glove
