Brad works at a grocery store after school. Because he’s a part-time employee, his family receives a 5% discount on all items purchased at the store. Brad’s father recently bought a total of $84.96 worth of groceries. After deducting the amount of the discount, how much did Brad’s father actually pay for these items?

5% in decimal form is .05
Now you need to multiply $84.96 by .05
$84.96 * .05= $4.248 or $4.25
Now that you know how much was discounted all you need to do is subtract the discount from the original price of $84.96
$84.96-$4.25= $80.71 <---- Answer

Answer: Brad's father actually pay $80.712 for these items.

Explanation:

Since we have given that

Worth of groceries = $84.96

Rate of discount = 5%

Amount of discount would be

0.05* 84.96\\\\=\$4.248

Amount after deducting discount would be

84.96-4.248\\\\=\$80.712

Hence, Brad's father actually pay $80.712 for these items.
