Two trains leave the station at the same time, one heading west and the other east. The westbound train travels 12 miles per hour slower than the eastbound train. If the two trains are 680 miles apart after 4 hours, what is the rate of the westbound train?

Hello,

Let's v the rate of eastbound train

v-12 the rate of the westbound train

d=(v+v-12)*t with d=680 (mi) and t= 4(h)

680=(2v-12)*4
==>2v-12=170
==>2v=182
==>v=91 (mi/h)
(v because "vitesse" in french)
(d: distance)
(t:time)
