What is the value of x in the solution to the following system of equations?

x − 2y = 2
3x + y = 6

x -2y = 2
3x +y = 6 multiplie both sides by 2 => 6x +2y = 12

x -2y = 2
6x +2y = 12
------------------- assum the same terms
7x 0 = 14

x = 14/7

x = 2
