x + y = 5 . . . . . . . . (1)
y = 1/2x + 2 . . . . . .(2)
putting (2) into (1), we have,
x + 1/2x + 2 = 5
3/2x = 5 - 2 = 3
x = (3 x 2)/ 3 = 2
y = 1/2(2) + 2 = 1 + 2 = 3
Answer: the third option.
