Solving for the midpoint can be done by looking for the average of each of the given x-coordinates and y-coordinates. The 2 obtained averages are the new x-coordinate and y-coordinate. This shown below:

Midpoint = ( (-2 + 4)/2 , (5 + -9)/2 )
Midpoint = (1,-2)
