A developer wants to turn part of a local woodlot into a new housing development. A vernal pool exists in the part of the woodlot marked for development. How might the developer’s plan affect the salamanders that live in the woodlot?

Student Answer:
A The salamanders would have no water to drink.
B The salamanders would have no place to mate and lay their eggs.
The development would have no effect on the salamander population.
C The salamanders would not survive at all if the developer built houses in the woodlot.
I know its B but why would it be B?

The developer's plan would affect the salamanders that live in the woodlot by taking away their vernal pool, the lack of a vernal pool would mean that the salamanders would have no place to mate and lay their eggs. This would result in a drastic reduction of salamanders in the area.
