Let x be the length of the longest piece in inches, then we can set the following equation:

x+(x-(164)/(6))=(345)/(8)

Solving for x we get:

\begin{gathered} 2x=(345)/(8)+(164)/(6)=(1035+656)/(24)=(1691)/(24) \\ x=(1691)/(48)\approx70.46 \end{gathered}

Therefore the length of the longer piece is 70.46in,
