The Harlow experiments to discover the effects of social isolation on rhesus monkeys showed that they were severely psychologically disturbed. During the isolation, no monkey died. When they were removed from the total isolation, most of the monkeys experienced emotional shock. One of six monkeys died due to emotional anorexia.
