Sam stores manure for his farm in a rectangular box. The length of the box is 7 feet, The width is 9 inches, and the height is 6 inches. Each bag of Manure he bought contains 2.625 cubic feet of manure. How many bags of manure will fill the ox completely?

Explanation:

We know that the volume of rectangular box with length(l), width(w) and height(h) is given by:

Volume=lwh

Here we have:

l=7 feet

w=9 inches=0.75 feet

( since, 12 inch=1 feet

Hence, 1 inch=1/12 feet )

and

h=6 inches=0.5 feet

Hence, the volume of the rectangular box is:

Volume= 7×0.75×0.5

i.e.

Volume=2.625 cubic feet.

Now, the number of bags of manure that will fill the box completely is:

Ratio of volume of box to Volume of 1 bag of manure

= 2.625/2.625

=1

Hence, only one bag of manure could be fit into the box.
