One way is to hold your middle finger and index finger against the side of the persons neck. Next check if you can feel a pulse, if not stop trying to find the pulse and either find an AED or start CPR. If you find the pulse keep your finger there and count how many heart beats they have in a 30-second period. Multiply their heart beats by 2 and then you find their heart rate in units of beats a minute.
Another more modern way is using a heart rate monitor
Many are different in ways they work, some go on your finger some are even built into a blood pressure monitor. I'm going to talk about the one that goes on your finger.
Turn on the machine
Place the finger in the finger hole
Start the machine and let it read your pulse
