As the rug is circular, we only have to solve for the area of a circle. This is given by the following formula:

Area = pi * r^2

Where: pi = 3.1416
r = radius = 3ft

Area = 3.1416 * (3)^2
Area = 28.27 ft^2

The rug will cover about 28.27 ft^2 of the kitchen floor.
