What environmental conditions might cause damage to the alveolar sacs and what would be the consequences of that damage

The environmental conditions that might cause damage to the alveolar sacs would be air pollution and smoke from tobacco. The consequences of that damage may be permanent or temporary. The air pollution will cause the gas to get (smaller/reduce) which would get air or oxygen harder to get in the persons body.
