Spices of cheese pizza cost $3 each, and slices of gourmet pizza $4 each. A soccer coach will spend a total of $48 on slices of pizza for there team. The equation below shows the relationship between x, the number of slices of cheese pizza, and y, the number of slices of gourmet pizza the coach will buy.

We know that "x" represents the number of cheese pizzas and "y" the number of gourmet pizzas. They are connected by the equation

3x+4y=48

If he buys zero cheese pizzas, we do x = 0, therefore

\begin{gathered} 3\cdot0+4y=48 \\ \\ 4y=48 \end{gathered}

Solve for "y"

y=(48)/(4)=12

He can buy 12 slices of gourmet pizza.
