Expository would basically mean to explain or describe something. Expository writing would basically be giving out information or explaining a certain topic. Some expository writing can include essays, newspaper articles, and textbooks.

Expository texts are used mainly to educate the readers; they get to the point directly and immediately, leaving the emotional drive out, in contrast with other types of texts such as poetry or fiction, making it more efficient in delivering information, giving directions or showing how something takes place.

They are intended to illustrate an idea, explain it or describe things; thereby within examples of expository texts we may find: Problem & Solution Essays, Scientific documents or simply instruction manuals.
