Why is semen alkaline and high in fructose?

Semen is alkaline because it contains basic amines like spermine, putrescine and cadaverine. It is as such because it counteracts the acidic environment of the vaginal canal to protect the sperm from denaturation. Fructose level is important because it provides energy to the sperm.
