9/16+1/2. First make both denominaters the same: 9/16x1=9/16, 1/2x4=8/16. Then add numerators: 9/16+8/16=17/16. Simplify: 16 goes into 17 1 time with 1 left over: 17/16=1 and 1/16 :)

1/2 can be rewritten as 8/16. adding 9/16 and 8/16 would be 17/16, or 1 1/16
