A table is rectangular and its length is twice its width. Find the dimensions of the table if it occupies 72 ft2 of floor space.

Let width be w.
Since its length is twice its width, it's 2w.

Since length × width = area,
w × 2w = 72
2w² = 72
w² = 36
w = 6
2w = 12

The table is 6 ft wide and 12 ft long.
