b=bellt price
j=jacket price

b+j=82.78

belt is 0.86 less than jacket
b=j-0.86
add 0.86 to both sides
b+0.86=j
sub
b+b+0.86=82.78
2b+0.86=82.78
minus 0.86 from both sides
2b=81.92
divid both sides by 2
b=40.96

belt=$40.96

I made it into an equation (j-0.86)+j=82.78 first u have to find the price of the jacket and the add it in the equation so 82.78-0.82 and what ever u do to one side u do to the other so -0.82+0.82 they which equals 0 and 82.78+0.82=83.64 so now the equation is j + j=83.64, j + j is 2j=83.64 so 83.64 divided by 2 equals 41.82 and 2j divided by 2 equals j so the jacket cost 41.82 but ur looking for the cost of the belt so (41.82-0.86)+41.82=82.78, 41.82-0.86=40.96, so the BELT EQUALS 40.96 and if u add 41.82 to that u will get 82.78
