The three types of fossil fuels are coal, oil, and natural gas. Coal is formed through decay of land vegetation, and is considered a solid fossil fuel. Oil is formed through the remains of marine microorganisms that are deposited on the sea floor and is known as a liquid fossil fuel. Lastly, natural gas is also formed through the remains of marine microorganisms, however, this is the gas version of a fossil fuel.
