Silk road : refer to an ancient network routes that connect the east and west china to the mediterranean area (middle east)

Great wall : A massive wall that separated china from the north part of its region (which belong to european)

Based on these two, it seems that china does not wanted to be involved with the foreign affairs from the european region.
