Instruct: To teach or instruct one on the learning of something, as in an activity.

Example: She was to instruct her friend on how to sew the clothing properly.

Instruction: To give instruction to or receive instruction from. Therefore the person is being given instruction rather than being taught or - instructed.

Example: She was given instruction on the event she had to plan.
