Age (years) 12 17 8 12 14 11Experience (yrs) 61 78 52 70 40 76Residual -2.368.99-5.047.64-25.0214.99 —19. A group of six freelance typists compared their speed in words per minute and the number of years of experience they have as freelancers. The table shows the data points for the six freelancers and their residuals. Using technology, the equation of the best fit line was found to be û = 1.33x + 46.4. The residuals are also included in the table. What do the individual values of the residuals tell you about the relationship of the typing speed and the years of experience of the freelancers? A. The typing speed and years of experience have a weak positive relationship.B. The typing speed and years of experience have a very strong negative relationship.C. The typing speed and years of experience have almost no relationship. D. The typing speed and years of experience have a very strong positive relationship.

Problem

Solution

For this case we know that the best line is given by this formula:

y= 1.33 x + 46.4

What do the individual values of the residuals tell you about the relationship of the typing speed and the years of experience of the freelancers?

the residuals and the diagnostic plots are on the following plot

And taking in count this the best solution it would be:

C. The typing speed and years of experience have almost no relationship.

The reason is because we don't see a pattern in the residuals
