Problem

find the equation of the line that passes through the point (3,-2) and is perpendicular to the line y=1/2x-2

Solution

For this case if we have two lines perpendicular we need to satisfy the following:

m1 * m2= -1

For this case m1= 1/2 and we can find m2 like this:

m2= -1/m1 = -1/ 1/2 = -2

And now we can use the point given (3,.2) in order to find the equation on this way:

-2 = -2 (3) +b

And solving we got:

b= -2 +6= 4

So then our equation would be:

y= -2x +4

And that would be the final solution
