Given:


\begin{gathered} x+3y=-24........(1) \\ -2x-y=23........\mleft(2\mright) \end{gathered}

Multiply the equation by 2 on both sides, we get


2x+6y=-48\ldots\ldots\ldots(3)

Adding (2) and (3) we get,


\begin{gathered} 5y=-25 \\ y=-5 \end{gathered}

Substitute y=-5 in (1) we get,


\begin{gathered} x+3(-5)=-24 \\ x-15=-24 \\ x=-24+15 \\ x=-9 \end{gathered}

Hence, the answer is, (-9, -5).
