Ogodei was Genghis Khan's third son and was known for expanding his father's conquest to Southern China and Eastern Europe.

When Gengis Khan died in 1227, Ogodei was appointed two years later as the successor and dedicated himself to consolidate and further his father's conquests. He died in 1241.
