We have to calculate the probability that a randomly selected respondent is male or chose recreation as their most likely activity.

We can estimate the probability as the quotient between the elements that match our category (Male or Recreation) and the total number of respondents.

We can find the values from the table as:

We can find the total respondents that match our category as the sum of the total of males, the total of recreations, minus the males that choose recreation (in order to not add them twice).

We can express this as:

M+R-M\cap R=96+62-23=135

The total number of respondents is 200, so we can calculate the probability as:

P(M\cup R)=(135)/(200)=0.675

Answer: the probability is 0.675.
