We have the following:


d=\sqrt[]{(x_2-x_1)^2+(y_2-y_1)^2}

replacing:


\begin{gathered} d=\sqrt[]{(_{}-5-(-8)_{})^2+(-6-1_{})^2} \\ d=\sqrt[]{3^2+7^2} \\ d=\sqrt[]{9+49}=\sqrt[]{58} \end{gathered}

now, the graph

leg 1 = 3

leg 2 = 7

hypotenuse = 7.61
