x/2 + x/4 = 12
Find the LCD, which is 4.
2x/4 + x/4 = 12
3x/4 = 12
Multiply both sides by 4 to remove the fraction.
3x/4 • 4 = 12 • 4
3x = 48
To find x, divide both sides by the coefficient of x, which is 3.
3x/3 = 48/3
x = 16

Check:
16/2 + 16/4 = 12
2(16)/4 + 16/4 = 12
32/4 + 16/4 = 12
8 + 4 = 12
12 = 12

Thus, the answer to x is 16.

x/2 +x/4 =12
(1/2+1/4)x= 12
3/4x =12
by multiple both sides by 4/3
so x = 16
