X²-3x=0
Solve by factoring
I know that x=0,3, but how do you get that from x(x-3)=0?

You have to solve the equation by essentially taking out the parentheses. So you will take x, which is outside the parentheses and multiply it by each factor inside of them.

So you will multiply x with x (first term in brackets) and multiply x with 3, second term in the bracket. You will then add these two terms together.

x^2 - 3x

by equating each factor by 0
x*(x-3)=0
so, x=0 & x-3=0
x=0 & x=3
