To solve a first degree equation we need to isolate the unkown variable on the left side. To do that each term that is moved from one side to the other should have its operation reversed. If the term is adding it should go to the other side by subtracting and vice-versa. If the term is multiplying it hsould go to the other side by dividing and vice-versa.

With this in mind, let's solve the equation.


\begin{gathered} 54x\text{ + 80 = 24x + 56} \\ 54x\text{ - 24x + 80 = 56} \\ 30x\text{ = 56 - 80} \\ 30x\text{ = 24} \\ x\text{ = }(24)/(30) \\ x\text{ = }(4)/(5)\text{ = 0.8} \end{gathered}
