a) You have to determine the distance between checkpoints 5 and 2, to do so, you have to calculate the difference between the altitude of both checkpoints.

Checkpoint 2: -43 ft

Checkpoint 5: 3,382 ft


3382-(-43)=3425

This result indicates that checkpoint 2 is 3,425ft below checkpoint 5.

b) The top of the hill is 532 ft above checkpoint 4, to determine the altitude of the top of the hill, you have to add this distance to the altitude to checkpoint 4.

Checkpoint 4: -176ft

Distance 532


-176+532=356

The top of the hill is 356ft above sea level.
