4 x 2 = − 9x − 4

Multiply 4 and 2. Add 4 to both sides.
8 + 4 = -9x

Divide both sides by -9.
(8 + 4)/-9 = x

Simplify
-12/9 = x

get all on one side
add 9x+4 both sides
4x^2+9x+4=0
use quadratic formula
in form
ax^2+bx+c=0
x=
\frac{-b+/- \sqrt{b^(2)-4ac} }{2a}

a=4
b=9
c=4

x=
\frac{-9+/- \sqrt{9^(2)-4(4)(4)} }{2(4)}
x=
(-9+/- √(81-64) )/(8)
x=
(-9+/- √(17) )/(8)
x=
(-9+ √(17) )/(8) or
(-9- √(17) )/(8)

aprox
x=-1.64039 or -0.6096
