First combine like terms. 1t+3t=4t
5+4t=1
Now subtract 5 from both sides.
4t=-4
Now divide both sides by 4.
t=-1
To check, let's plug in -1 for t.
-1+5+3*-1=
3*-1=-3
-1+5+-3=1
t=-1
