\sf\ For\ ax^2+bx+c=0\ the\ quadratic\ formula\ is\ x=\frac{-b\± \sqrt{b^(2)-4ac} }{2a}.\\You\ can\ use\ this\ formula\ to\ solve\ the\ problem.\\\\\\\\I'm\ presuming\ that\ your\ equation\ is\ x^2+4x+3=0\\\\\\\\a=1\\\\\ b=4\\\\ c=3\\\\\\\\Plug\ it\ in\ the\ quadratic\ formula.\\\\\\\\x=\frac{-b\± \sqrt{b^(2)-4ac} }{2a}\\\\x=\frac{-(4)\± \sqrt{(4)^(2)-4(1)(3)} }{2(1)}\\\\x=(-4\± √(16-4(3)) )/(2)\\\\x=(-4\± √(16-12) )/(2)\\\\x=(-4\± √(4) )/(2)\\\\x=(-4\±2)/(2)

\sf\ So\ now\ we\ have\ x=(-4+2)/(2)\ and\ x=(-4-2)/(2).\\\\\\\\x=(-4+2)/(2)\ \ \ \ \ \ \ \ \ \ \ \ \ \ \ \ \ \ \ \ \ \ \ \ \ \ \ \ x=(-4-2)/(2)\\\\x=(-2)/(2)\ \ \ \ \ \ \ \ \ \ \ \ \ \ \ \ \ \ \ \ \ \ \ \ \ \ \ \ \ \ \ x=(-6)/(2)\\\\x=-1\ \ \ \ \ \ \ \ \ \ \ \ \ \ \ \ \ \ \ \ \ \ \ \ \ \ \ \ \ \ \ x=-3\\\\\\\\{\boxed{\sf\ x=-1\ \ or\ \ x=-3}
