Patriots wanted to separate from Britain, loyalists were loyal to the king and Britain. To summarize it further, patriots were the Americans, loyalists were the redcoats. They hated each other.

the loyalists were loyal to the kings rules,
patriots didnt believe in the kings rules and
wanted to be free. Thats how the Revolutionary War
started.
