For a rectangular solid with length 13 feet, height 14 feet, and width 5 feet, find the a. volume and b. surface area.

step 1

Find the volume

we know that

the volume is equal to

V=L*W*H

so

substitute teh given values

\begin{gathered} V=13\cdot5\cdot14 \\ V=910\text{ ft\textasciicircum{}3} \end{gathered}

the volume is 910 cubic feet

step 2

Find the surface area

we have that

the surface area is equal to

SA=2B+PH

where

B is the area of the base

P is the perimeter of the base

H is the height

so

B=L*W

B=13*5=65 ft^2

P=2(L+W)

P=2(13+5)

P=36 ft

substitute

SA=2(65)+36(14)

SA=634 ft^2

the surface area is 634 square feet
