I strongly believe you meant (x^4)^2 as you're referring to polynomials.


(x^4)^2

= (x^4)*(x^4)

= (x*x*x*x)*(x*x*x*x)

= x^8

On the other hand, if you meant (x^4)2, then the answer is 2x^4

(x^4)^2=x^(4*2)=x^8
