The Cuyahoga-river has been designated as one of the American Heritage Rivers. This river is also famous for having, in 1969, literally caught fire.

This combustion, related to the dumping of flammable and toxic products (fire-hazard products) in this river, it was a trigger in the ecological awareness in the United States (and also outside the USA).
