Considering the fact that most members of the Victorian middle class were sincere, pious Christians, what do you see as a possible obstacle that could prevent materially comfortable Christians from living in imitation of Christ?

Answer: Christ proposed an interior change in human beings. And if some of the Victorian middle class people had shared their fortune with the destitute they might have had adhered to Christ legacy. As Christ said, it is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for a rich man to enter the kingdom of God. In other words riches could have been the worst obstacle to imitate Christ.

A possible obstacle that could and would prevent materially comfortable Christians from living in imitation in Christ would be the requirement that they would live a rather ascetic life without great amounts of material goods and similar things.
