Solutions

Area is the size of a surface. To calculate the area of an object you have to multiply the length times the width. Width is the distance from side to side and the length is how far the object is from end to end.

We know that

X = 2 inches
Y = 9 inches
W = 5 inches
Z = 5 inches

Calculations

Width = 5

z - x =

5 - 2 = 3

5 x 3 = 15

The total is going to be y by z

9 times 5 = 45

total - white space =

45 -15 = 30

The area is 30 square inches.

ok
2 ways

cut up and find seperate areas
find area of each

ok so I will do whole-white area

whie area is W by z-x
W=5
z-x=5-2=3
5 by 3 measn 15 area

total is y by z
9 times 5=45

total-white=45-15=30

area is 30 square inches
