Explain how adding and subtracting mixed numbers is different from adding and subtracting fractions

Well mixed numbers are numbers that consists of a integer or proper fraction and a fraction is not a whole numbers.

So... adding or subtracting mixed numbers would most likely provide an whole number while fractions remain fractions when you add or subtract them.

Adding and subtracting mixed numbers and fractions don't really have that much differences.

Mixed numbers are whole numbers added to a fraction

For instance you could say that 1/2 is a fraction but adding a 1 next to it making a mixed number 1 1/2

Its just making the fraction smaller.
