Knowing that 1 gram = 1,000 milligrams can help you in converting 1 kilogram to milligrams because you could convert the grams to milligrams after you convert it to grams.

You know:

1 kilogram = 1,000 grams
1 gram = 1,000 milligrams

Convert:

1 kilogram = x milligrams

1 kilogram = 1,000 grams
1,000 grams = x milligrams
1,000 × 1,000 = 1,000,000
x = 1,000,000

This is how it helps. ^^^

If one gram equals 1,000 kilograms then 1,000 grams equals 1 kilogram equals 1 gram equals 1 milligram equals 100000 grams. I hope that helps a bit I know it's confusing.
