As what should they the same and to count as the sun. Both the water and land should have the same amount of light which would turn to thermal energy, heat.

To track the temperature of the variables. The experiment is to find out what heats up quicker, and the thermometer is here to track that.

By using the sand and water as a variable to see which absorbs heat quicker, using the heat lamp to make them heat up so they don’t stay room temperature, and using the thermometer to track how hot they are in a span of time.

I would compare it by how hot they are using the thermometer, checking consistently for a difference.

Within a 24-hour period only checking 3 times, they should check the temperature at the beginning (0 hours), middle (12 hours) and end (24 hours). Why? Because those are the major times. Any time before or after the middle won’t be as precise as it would’ve been, and taking the temperature at the beginning will guarantee it’s at the same starting point. At the end you’ll get the result of your experiment.
10. What would an effective conclusion need to include?
Your research results explain how your findings support or disprove your initial inference.
