The skin functions by protecting the body from basic elements of nature such as water, UV sunlight and wind. They also act as a barrier against water loss due to presence of keratin layers and glycolipids in the stratum comeum. However, skin in integumentary system acts by maintaining the internal conditions that is required by the body while it is excretory system because it secretes a fluid waste called sweat or perspiration. The secretion of sweat maintain the level of salt in the body.
